Rod: We wed it well.. by living apart

Singer on secret to a happy marriage

-

SiR Rod Stewart has revealed the secret to his and wife Penny Lancaster’s 12-year marriage … the couple seldom see each other.

The 74-year-old singer, who married model and Loose Women panellist Penny in 2007, said: “We like our silence. We live in a very big house and we don’t bump into each other for hours on end.”

The You Wear It Well star is father to eight children, six from previous relationships.

He has two children with 48-year-old Penny, Alastair, 13, and Aiden, seven.

Rod was previously married to Rachel Hunter, 50, and Alana Hamilton, 74.

He also revealed he is the same weight now as he was more than a decade ago.

He told Women’s Own magazine: “I work out a lot. I’ve had a trainer for 30 years and I weigh the same as 12 years ago. I’ve built an indoor pool and I do a lot of swimming.”

The singer’s comments are thought to have been made before revealing last weekend that he had won a battle with prostate cancer. He told how he was diagnosed with the disease in February by TOM BRYANT 2016 during a routine check-up and secretly fought the condition for three years. Rod opened up about his prostate cancer during a fundraising evening with former Faces bandmates Kenney Jones, 71, and Ronnie Wood, 72.

He said: “No one knows this but I thought it was about time I told everybody. I’m in the clear now, simply because I caught it early. I have so many tests.”

Addressing the men directly, he pleaded: “Guys, you’ve got to really go to the doctor.”

And he had the crowd in stitches when he said of the physical examination to check for the disease: “Finger up the bum, no harm done.” He added: “If you’re positive, and you work through it and keep a smile on your face … I’ve worked for two years and I’ve just been happy, and the good Lord looked after me.”

ROD is bringing out a new compilation album of his hits backed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. You’re In My Heart’s release will coincide with his gigs at Glasgow’s Hydro in November.
