Minister cites national security for probe

THE Government has ordered a probe into the controvers­ial £4billion US takeover of British defence giant Cobham.

Business Secretary Andrea Leadsom asked the Competitio­n and Markets Authority to investigat­e “on the grounds of national security”.

The interventi­on comes days after 93 per cent of Cobham shareholde­rs voted to back the takeover.

The firm is closing 12 of 34 Car Store sites, where buyers pick up motors they’ve bought online. Pendragon, better known for its Evans Halshaw and Stratstone chains, blamed costs for the cull.
