TAM: GAFFER WILL MAKE US TOUGHER

-

TAM O’WARE insists new boss Ian McCall can put some steel into soft touch Partick Thistle.

The Jags defender is confident the arrival of McCall will trigger an upturn at Firhill for a side sitting at the foot of the Championship.

After a 5-0 Betfred Cup loss on Wednesday night at Celtic, O’Ware has turned his attention to league duty at Inverness and he’s adamant a hard edge needs to be found in the Highlands tomorrow.

He said: “There has definitely been a change in mood. The gaffer has come in and said it’s a clean slate for everybody which I think it has to be.

“He said we shouldn’t be in the position we are but we know as players we have let ourselves down and the club.

“It’s about going about it the right way now and getting the manager’s ideas onto the pitch. We need to prove that.

“Nobody is shying away from the fact we haven’t been good enough and the new manager is going to change things.

“He’s going to get us to play in a different way. I think we are wee bit too easy to play against and things are a bit too nice sometimes.

“The gaffer will change things and make us harder BY GORDON PARKS to play against. We have quality in there, it’s about showing it on the park and getting the confidence up.”

The Maryhill board dismissed Gary Caldwell last week and installed McCall with former boss Alan Archibald coming in as an assistant.

Despite the reshuffle, O’Ware believes it’s down to the players to turn over a new leaf and start climbing the table.

He said: “We need to start afresh and try to impress the manager. Gary Caldwell did well for us I thought, he was bright.

“As players we have let ourselves down but any manager could be in charge and we could still be making the same mistakes. We need to try to change that.

“We need to look at ourselves and with two Partick Thistle legends in charge, it’s now something a bit different.

“Archie has come back and you don’t often see a manager returning as an assistant. It’s only going to benefit us and I’m not going to argue with it.

“Someone of his stature knows the club inside out and so does Ian. What Alan has done for this club ensures he’s forever a legend. The two of them are legends. To have them in charge is brilliant.”
