WHAT happens on a stag do, should stay on the stag do.

But Stephen Currie might have been left behind, too, if it wasn’t for a madcap plan to deal with his lost passport.

One cheap motor and 1000 miles later, it’s one story that can’t be left out of the best man’s speech.

A STAG party on a trip to Poland bought an old banger for £250 and drove it home to Scotland after one of them forgot his passport.

Stephen Currie threw David Mair’s stag party into chaos after realising he had left his passport in Edinburgh when they arrived in Krakow last Friday. After being allowed into the country by passport control officials using a picture of his ID and a waiver form, Stephen and two of his pals, Fraser Gibson and Alan Ross, decided to buy a car for 1200 Zloty – about £250 – and drive 16 hours home to Scotland. Stephen, from Stonehouse in Lanarkshire, said: “I had a few drinks and was a bit worse for wear. I fell asleep on the plane and when I woke up, I realised I didn’t have my passport.

“I was panicking that I wasn’t going to be allowed into the country. Thankfully after some waiting I was allowed to enter. They got David’s dad to sign a waiver form and I showed them a picture of my ID.”

Stephen, 33, said he was told he would have to speak to the British Embassy before he could leave the country.

He added: “We knew the trip back was going to be a problem but I thought, ‘Where there’s a will, there’s a way’.”

After realising he’d wouldn’t be able to go to the embassy until Wednesday, Stephen and his pals began looking for a way for him to get home without using a passport.

One of them came up with the idea of buying a car. The lads then picked up an old Vectra on the local Facebook Marketplace.

They parked it up for a few days and enjoyed the rest of their break, before Stephen, Fraser and Alan set off on their 16-hour journey home on Sunday.

John Rodger, who was on the stag do to celebrate David marrying fiancee Laura Fisher next month, said: “It was hilarious. We don’t know what they will do with the car but I think it needs to make an appearance at the wedding.”
