POLICE CAVE IN AND ORDER INDEPENDENT REVIEW

-

But we told them that’s not enough. We don’t want a review of all they have done because what they have done is worthless. “We told them they need to start the investigation all over again, visit witnesses again and take honest statements, recording what they say, not what the local police wanted them to say.”

The police handling of various investigations in Caithness has been called into question.

The death of Jenna Johnson is another such case. In February, we reported how Jenna’s parents believe the man who is suspected locally of killing Stefan raped their daughter last December. Days later, she took her own life.

Yesterday Jenna’s mum Carol Forrest said: “We hope Stefan’s family get justice.

“If the police had done their job properly when Stefan was murdered, Jenna would still be alive.” JENNA Johnson took her life on January 1 - but her family believe the catalyst for her death came days earlier when she was drugged and filmed while being raped.

Mum-of-two Jenna, 27, of Thurso, had been tormented by the threat of her rape ordeal being circulated in the community.

After her suicide, her body was taken to Glasgow for a forensic examination. But tests were inconclusive because the sexual assault by two men happened days earlier.

Jenna had told close friends and her sister Kelsey, 21, the identities of the two men.

One of them is suspected locally to have murdered Stefan Sutherland.

Kelsey and mum Carol Forrest reached out to Stefan’s family in the wake of their own tragedy.

Earlier this year, Jenna’s mum Carol said: “We know, and our whole community knows, that these two guys are evil and have carried out other sickening and violent crimes.

“Stefan’s killer is the ringleader. He thinks he is above the law and is a very dangerous man. He needs to be locked up or there will be more deaths.”

Stefan’s dad Sandy told the Record: “This guy should have been in jail for Stefan’s murder and if he had been, another family would not be suffering as we have.”

Yesterday, Carol said: “We know what happened to Jenna and who was responsible.

“If one of those men goes to prison for life for murdering Stefan, we’ll be glad for the Sutherland family and we’ll take some satisfaction from it ourselves.

“But we’re not ready to give up on Jenna. We’re urging the police to do all they can to bring both men to justice.”
