Young Boys enjoy the advantage of training and playing regularly on their synthetic surface but Goldson said: “We are used to those kind of pitches now.

“It is a lot different to grass as the ball holds up a lot more but we have played enough games on it this season so we can’t use that as an excuse.

“We have watched enough videos of them and they look a good side.

“They score a lot of goals from crosses and can be direct so we know what we are facing.”

Bern is known as the City of Bears but there won’t be many in the shape of travelling Gers fans with the club refusing their ticket allocation following UEFA punishment for their sectarian singing.

Goldson said: “It will make a difference as we’re so used to having our fans with us everywhere we go.

“It’s sad for those fans who travel everywhere with us that they are having to miss the game.

“As you know when you go away from home, as much noise as our fans make, when you go to big arenas they are the minority.

“We just have to deal with big attendance­s and bring back a good result for our fans to cheer. That’s what we’ll aim for.”
