Miller: Declan’s a born leader like England’s Terry
LEE MILLER last night insisted Declan Gallagher can become Scotland’s answer to England hero John Terry.
Miller is thrilled to see his former Livingston team-mate win his first international call-up for the upcoming Euro qualifiers with Russia and San Marino after national boss Steve Clarke rewarded him for his displays for Motherwell.
The 28-year-old centre-half BY EUAN McARTHUR is in the form of his life since moving to Fir Park during the summer from Livi where he helped propel the West Lothian club to consecutive promotions to the Premiership.
Gallagher’s international promotion caps a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for the former Celtic kid and Miller believes he has the credentials to become a carbon copy of former England and Chelsea skipper Terry.
Miller said: “I’m buzzing for the big man.
“Declan deserves this call-up because he’s been outstanding for Motherwell in the Premiership this season and has just carried on from where he left off at Livingston.
“Scotland have been crying out for an inspirational figure – someone like John Terry for England – for quite some time. Now I actually think they could have found the answer in Declan. He’s like Terry in the way he’s a born leader. He inspires and drags others on around him.
“He might have a laugh with this comparison but it’s the biggest compliment I can pay him because he falls into the inspirational category both on and off the park.”
