Scots call would be Glasgow Fair dinkum

Dykes is open to making a switcheroo

LIVINGSTON’S Lyndon Dykes has opened the door to a Scotland call-up.

The Livi striker’s superb form, capped by a goal against Celtic last Sunday, led to calls by his boss Gary Holt for Steve Clarke to consider the 24-year-old, whose parents are Scottish.

Dykes would prefer to play for his native Australia but he’d love to have the choice between his country of birth and adopted homeland.

He said: “If Scotland came and Australia didn’t then obviously I’d like to play for Scotland. Hopefully I can put my name on the radar.”

LYNDON DYKES is ready to turn his back on Ramsay Street to take the long and winding road with the Scotland national team.

The Livingston striker, born and bred in Australia, is eligible for Scotland thanks to his Dumfries and Galloway-born parents.

Lions gaffer Gary Holt has told his bustling frontman to commit to Scots boss Steve Clarke and cap a season that’s going from strength to strength.

Dykes, 24, dyed his hair blond then bullied the life out of Celtic on Sunday, scoring the clincher in his side’s 2-0 win.

He admits he’d consider Scotland if the Socceroos don’t come calling.

Dykes said: “I grew up in Australia so would probably choose Australia if both came in but it’s hard.

“If Scotland came and Australia didn’t then obviously I would like to play for Scotland. But I would have to see if I ever got the opportunity.

Scotland approach. My parents are Scottish, my dad is from just outside Dumfries.

“All my family are in Scotland. I have Scottish blood.

“I haven’t had any approach from any international side and didn’t go through the age group ranks at national level with Australia, although I played at schoolboy level there.

“It has all happened very quickly but I just put it down to hard work, to putting my head down. Hopefully I can prove to people that I’m good enough to make the step up and put my name on the radar.”

Dykes and his Livi pals ended champs Celtic’s unbeaten Premiership start and shut them out for the first time this season.

The striker added: “Our boys deserved it. It was a great three points against Celtic.

“I was pleased with my goal – our keeper Matty Sarkic and I made a little gesture down the line and it bounced nicely for me.

“I saw Fraser Forster off his line and thought, ‘I’m going to try and chip him’. Luckily I hit it high enough to get over him.

“I just do what I can do for the team. If I get the better of opponents like Christopher Jullien then I get the better of him. I thought it was a good battle to be fair, that’s what I like.

“We were going at it a bit and I don’t know how he didn’t get a yellow card against me. But he’s a great player.”
