Gers face 7 out of 9 matches on road

- BY MARK McDOUGALL

RANGERS could be set for a gruelling away run with seven of their next nine Premiership games taking place on the road – if they reach the Betfred Cup Final.

With the visit of St Johnstone postponed already due to the cup semi-final with Hearts, Rangers are also scheduled to be at Ibrox a day before the Final on December 8.

Ross County are set to visit on that occasion but

if Steven Gerrard’s side are victorious against Hearts at Hampden on November 3, the game will be rearranged for a later date.

Starting with Hearts in the first match after the international break Rangers are poised to play nine league games before Christmas and seven would be away from home.

There are trips to face Aberdeen, Hibs and another showdown at Livingston.

In the first eight league games of the season, Celtic have faced five fixtures on the road while Rangers have been away only three times.

Last season they dropped 25 points on their travels with defeats to Celtic (twice), Kilmarnock (twice) and Livingston as well as draws against Aberdeen, Motherwell, Dundee and Hibs (twice) – although they have claimed nine points from nine in away ties so far this season.

Even if Rangers don’t make the Betfred Cup Final and the clash with County isn’t postponed, it would still make it seven out of the next 10 on the road.

Fixtures – Hearts v Rangers (Oct 20), RANGERS v Motherwell (Oct 27), Ross County v Rangers (Oct 30), Livingston v Rangers (Nov 10), Hamilton v Rangers (Nov 24), RANGERS v Hearts (Nov 30), Aberdeen v Rangers (Dec 4), RANGERS v Ross County or Betfred Cup Final (Dec 7), Motherwell v Rangers (Dec 15), Hibs v Rangers (Dec 20).
