GAFFER’S HONEYMOON IS OVER

DON’T BLAME THE BOSS SAYS ROBBO

match and talk about those moments when we’ve just lost 4-0.

“But how have we lost 4-0? The game just ran away from us and that can only be a mental fragility on the back of two or three heavy defeats.

“The Russia defeat at Hampden was only by one goal but it was a sore one. We then backed that up with a 4-0 to Belgium and then another one in Moscow.

“But I’ve got to keep faith. I’ve got to keep working and make sure that this is the lowest point for us. From here we need to bounce back.”

It’s certainly an interesting mantra: “Stick with us guys, it won’t get any worse than this. I promise.”

But then again, what else can Clarke really say without patronising the very people he needs to keep onside?

Scotland’s supporters have developed a keen nose for bulls*** over the years. God knows they’ve been served up enough of it.

And now Clarke can’t even bring himself to plead for their patience let alone ask them to stump up more hard-earned cash for tomorrow’s visit from world football microstate San Marino.

There’s a serious danger here that Scotland may be about to perform in front of an all-time low Hampden crowd just to add a further heap of embarrassment to this toe-curling insult of a campaign.

And Clarke added: “It’s difficult for me to say to the fans they’ve got to come to Hampden. We have to accept that at this moment in time our results aren’t encouraging the supporters to come and watch us.

“We’ll just need to keep working and try to turn the corner.”

One man’s defiance is another man’s delusion. Either way Clarke and Scotland are about to reach a crossroads. AND... COME ON SCOTLAND... COME ON SCOTLAND... COME ON SCOTLAND... COME ON SCOTLAND... COME ON SCOTLAND... COME ON SCOTLAND... COME ON SCOTLAND...
