Spice up your spuds with Scotty Brand

- by Melanie Auld Spice Pots founder

Potatoes are just the tastiest comfort food at this time of year and as the weather turns colder, I certainly crave them more and more.

But what many people don’t know is that potatoes are really good for you.

They are fat-free and cholesterol-free and contain around only 150 calories each. And believe it or not, they are an excellent source of vitamin C with one medium potato giving you around 30mg vitamin C – that’s nearly as much as a whole glass of tomato juice.

The other good news is that Scottish potatoes

are available all year round. Now if you want to spice up your mealtime this Autumn, then potatoes are the perfect product to do so as they make great tasty and wholesome curries.

The humble spud can be used as the main hero ingredient of the dish or added to dishes to help create more substance and to pad out your recipes – allowing your meal to go that little bit further – enough for leftovers or seconds.

Potatoes are like sponges; they soak up all the delicious herbs and spices to create the most amazing mouth-watering fusion of flavour.

The versatility of potatoes is what makes them ideal in many Indianinspired dishes and they can be used in a wide array of main courses, side dishes and starters.

For today’s recipe we are making small potato patties called Aloo Ki Tikki, which are often sold at street food stalls in Northern India.

They make a lovely starter or snack, and can be served with a chutney, raita or a simple salad.
