Roads to ruin
REGARDING your article on the problems with cyclists and pedestrians using mobile phones while on the move, I witnessed a crazy cyclist on a mobile phone last week.
As he cycled along a busy road, he removed both hands from the handlebars and proceeded to text as he cycled.
Also, as a regular country road driver, I encounter cycling clubs driving along two or even three abreast on quiet, bendy roads.
Are they not aware of the speed at which idiot motorists may be coming around the next bend towards them, possibly on the wrong side of the road?
There is no point in trying to educate the motorist if the cyclists are behaving in such a foolhardy manner. Neil Carberry, Dunfermline
Flickering hell
I WAS glad to leave a department store in Glasgow due to the ongoing problem it has with constantly flickering strip lights on every floor.
This has been an issue for years and must be a health hazard for staff. My head was pounding after 20 minutes. L Thomson, Glasgow
Unreal Mackay
ONE of the best things on TV this week was Derek Mackay at the SNP conference. Beside making his pitch to be next leader, he tried to convince the electorate that Scotland will be wonderful after independence.
There was no mention of the currency dilemma or the level of deficit Scotland will have post-independence.
The SNP’s record in government does not warrant Mackay’s belief that it can manage an independent country successfully. B Park, Bathgate, West Lothian
