Nigel’s pig issue

Miniature pet grows into 28-stone beast

QUITE a few of us will have bought a pig in a poke – so spare a thought for Nigel Graham.

He shelled out for what he believed was a micro-porker but it grew into a giant that’s eating him out of house and home. As bad deals go, this one’s really gone the whole hog.

A COUPLE have ended up sharing their home with a 28-stone pig bought from a breeder who insisted it was a mere “micro-hog”.

Unsuspecting Nigel Graham bought Grace as an alternative to a cat or dog because his wife Sam is allergic to fur. He was told Grace was a miniature pig who would weigh no more than 70lb when fully grown.

But five years later, she munches through £20 of food every week.

The couple tried to move her into the garden of their house in Malvern, Worcestershire, but the house-trained pig refused, preferring the living room sofa.

She uses a giant pig-flap cut into the back door of their three-bedroom house to go out to the garden to do her business.

Dad-of-two Nigel, 57, said: “She was meant to remain small but she’s just kept on growing.

“She spends her time on the sofa or sleeping on her bed in the kitchen, keeping warm in front of the radiator.

“She did sleep upstairs when she was younger on a double orthopaedic mattress but she’s too large for the stairs. She’s like a dog, loving cuddles and belly rubs and she whines at the back door when she wants to go out.”

Grace’s favourite food is rice pudding and prawn crackers.

Nigel said: “Bacon was my favourite meat but we don’t eat it any more.”
