There’s a lot of love in store

Granville and Leroy STILL OPEN ALL HOURS

BBC1, 8pm THIS well-worn sitcom feels very much like something from the 70s – which is a good thing or a bad thing depending on your point of view.

David Jason is the hero, playing Granville, the grocer with the gift of the gab.

The very fact that this centres around a grocer of a local shop immediately dates it but loyal fans who loved Open All Hours when it began in 1976 will still enjoy this. In this series six opener, Granville discovers an old mangle in the yard, but what can he do with it?

No one else is that interested (funny that) but he’s determined.

“When the mangle makes its comeback, you’ll be able to say ‘I was there’,” he insists.

Meanwhile, Beth (Katie Redford) is still on at Leroy (James Baxter) to find a date for best friend Ruby, who has been suspended at work – will his friend Willis fit the bill? CARAVANNING WITH SHANE RICHIE

C5, 9pm IT seems that Shane Richie, once a holiday camp Blue Coat, has signed up to be a walking, talking, advert for the infamous British caravan holiday.

“They are marvellous but misunderstood,” says the entertainer. “Some people can get quite snobbish about it but I say don’t knock it until you’ve tried it.”

With caravan holidays apparently on the up – some two million enjoyed them last year – Shane visits various Shane Richie parks across the country, joined by family and friends as he tries to convince them it’s a good idea.

“What are we looking forward to the most?” he asks his wife and three kids en route to Golden Sands in Rhyl, north Wales. “Going home,” his wife Christie succinctly says.

This occasionally swings into an odd travel review as he runs through various amenities – do we really need to know if towels are included?

But when Shane joins the on-stage entertainment – well, of course he does – it’s a lot more fun.
