Psycho killer still ‘a danger’

-

BY ROD MINCHIN A CHURCH warden who murdered a Scots university lecturer was yesterday jailed for more than 30 years.

Benjamin Field, 28, killed Edinburgh-born Peter Farquhar, 69, so he could inherit his house and money.

He was given a life term, with a minimum term of 36 years, at Oxford Crown Court.

Detectives branded Field a psychopath and said he would have posed an “ongoing danger to society”.

Author Peter died in Maids Moreton, Buckinghamshire, in 2015. A trial prevously heard Field had secretly given him drugs and spiked his whisky, hoping the death would look like suicide or an accident.

Field had a “betrothal” ceremony with Peter and also had a relationship with Peter’s neighbour, retired head teacher Ann Moore-Martin.

In August, Field was found guilty of Peter’s murder. He was found not guilty of plotting to kill Ann, 83, who died in May 2017. AN EX-SOLDIER has staked a claim as the world’s greatest adventurer after completing an epic challenge.

Geordie Stewart has become the first person to climb the highest summit of every continent on the globe and cycle solo around the world.

The 30-year-old – who completed the 22,500-mile journey last weekend – said growing up in Scotland prepared him for his astonishing feats.

And he has made such an impact on the outdoor scene that legendary explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes and TV survivalist Bear Grylls are fans.

The former St Andrews University student left the UK on his epic cycle in August last year. He returned home 430 days later, having visited 24 countries and four continents.

Geordie spent more than 200 nights wild camping and endured temperatures as low as -40C cycling through Siberia and 44C heat in the US.

He said his “vulnerability when alone on a bike” had sparked conversations and encounters which maintained his faith in human beings. But it also left him appalled at some of the world’s injustices.

Geordie said: “The whole experience gave me continued faith in the kindness and selflessness of individuals
