I’ll keep Kam and carry on

Flo hungry for game time as he eyes cap call-up

- BY ANTHONY HAGGERTY

FLORIAN KAMBERI has admitted he can’t stick around Easter Road and play second fiddle to Christian Doidge forever.

The Hibs attacker is desperate to play international football and is eligible to turn out for Switzerland, Albania or Kosovo.

But Kamberi is wise enough to know while he’s kicking his heels on the bench for Hibs the chance of an international call-up and crack at Euro 2020 remains a remote possibility.

The 24-year-old has failed to start their last three games and says Paul Heckingbottom hasn’t given him a reason as to why he has been axed.

Kamberi said: “I’ve been on the bench for the past three games and I don’t know why, he hasn’t given me a reason.

“I respect his decision, it’s not a problem. I will be patient and wait for my chance to help the team as soon as I get my game time.

“My big goal is to play international football. I have the possibility to play for three nations and any would be a privilege for me, especially if it was at a tournament like the Euros or the World Cup.

“To achieve that you need to have regular game time at your club and if I don’t have this then I would have to consider moving on.

“It’s hard to say because I don’t know what these nations think about me!

“I have a connection with each country. I grew up in Switzerland and my family are there. Both of my parents are from Kosovo and I have been there many times for holidays.

“Albania is like a brother country to Kosovo so it’s the same for me. I don’t have a preference, I’d never say one

was my first choice ahead of the others. It would be a privilege to represent any of them. I haven’t had a call-up from any yet so I’m just waiting.

“If I’m playing every weekend and scoring goals there would be a chance. First of all I need to play and if not I have to maybe consider moving on.”

Kamberi hopes to lead the line at Hamilton today but added: “It’s the manager’s decision and at the end of the day he takes the responsibility.

“He knows my style of play and if he decides to change our style of play because of our opponent I respect that. The style of play that suits me is into my feet or chest, not into my head or playing into the channels. It’s putting me in one-on-one situations with a chance to score a goal.

“The last three games Doidger has played and that has not been our style. I respect that, I have no problem with that.

“It’s still early, I don’t think too much about what might happen. I’m just looking forward to the Hamilton game and I will continue to give my best in training.

“I am happy here with the club, my team-mates and the fans and very much appreciate how they have treated me.”
