WIN JUST IN NIC OF TIME
UPDATE
NICOLAS COLSAERTS ended a seven-year wait for a European Tour win as Richie Ramsay boosted his bid to reach Dubai.
The former Ryder Cup star won by one over Joachim B Hansen after a 72 left him on 12-under 272 at the French Open.
Colsaerts, who had been battling to keep his Tour card, teed off on the final day in Paris with a three-shot lead only to slip a shot behind the Dane after finding water at 15.
But his rival took four putts from just short of the 17th green as the Belgian banked £230,000.
He said: “It changes everything for me for the next couple of years, a lighter schedule. I have a wife at home and a little kid now that I am going to be able to spend a bit more time with, which is nice.”
Ramsay (71) finished four shots off the top as a tied fifth took him to 55th in the Race to Dubai, the season-long competition to be European No.1.
The Scot now has two events, the first in Turkey on November 7, to break into the top 50 and clinch a tee-off time at the £6.2million DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.
Ramsay had his thumb taped to ease inflammation but said: “Now with some time off I should be right for the remainder of the season.” Meanwhile, Justin Thomas won the CJ Cup for the second time in three years in South Korea as a 67 took him to 20-under 268, two clear of Kiwi Danny Lee. CYCLING: Katie Archibald and Laura Kenny won Madison silver at the European Track Championships in Apeldoorn.
Second to Denmark, Scot Archibald said: “I’m exhausted, we put everything into that.” SNOOKER: Mark Selby crushed David Gilbert 9-1 in the English Open Final for his 16th ranking crown and his first in 13 months. ICE HOCKEY: Glasgow Clan saw their bid for a club-record ninth straight win shattered late on.
Clan lost 8-6 at home in the Elite League as Coventry Blaze hit four goals in seven minutes.
Dundee Stars lost 4-2 at Sheffield Steelers but Fife Flyers won 2-1 at Guildford Flames. BASKETBALL: Glasgow Rocks were thumped 8866 at home by Leicester Riders in the BBL Cup.
