Twenty of troubles as Scots crash once again

-

SCOTLAND suffered a huge blow in their bid to reach next year’s cricket T20 World Cup as they lost by 24 runs to Namibia.

A second defeat in four matches in Dubai leaves the Scots fourth in Group A, with six teams from two groups progressing to the showpiece in Australia.

The Saltires had hit back from a shock defeat to Singapore in their opener with wins against Kenya and Papua New Guinea but rarely looked like chasing down Namibia’s total of 159 for six.

Callum MacLeod (39) and Richie Berrington (23) shared a third-wicket stand of 48 but six wickets then fell for 40 runs as Scotland came up well short.

They must now beat Bermuda and Holland in their last two group games to be certain of a place in the knockout stages.

FORMULA ONE Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff thinks Lewis Hamilton will struggle to wrap up the title at this weekend’s Mexican Grand Prix.

Hamilton needs to outscore team-mate Valtteri Bottas by at least 14 points if he is to claim a sixth world crown.

But Wolff warned: “The last four races won’t be easy and we expect Mexico to be the most difficult.

“The low air density affects the downforce of the car, the cooling and the engine performance. It’s a combination that doesn’t particularly suit our car.”

ICE HOCKEY Omar Pacha insists his Dundee Stars side have what it takes to halt the losing streak that has seen them tumble to the bottom of the Elite League.

Stars have lost four on the trot but head coach Pacha said: “We have enough character in the room to turn that round.”
