Forster: I’ll keep hopes up for fresh England call

-

FRASER FORSTER is determined to put up the shutters against Lazio to fire himself back into the England frame.

The Celtic keeper landed in the Three Lions squad during his first spell at Parkhead after then boss Roy Hodgson was blown away by his Euro displays.

Forster’s Hoops heroics against the likes of Barcelona and AC Milan in the Champions League led him all the way to the 2014 World Cup squad.

The giant shot-stopper – who picked up the last of his six caps in 2017 – is hoping to get current England boss Gareth Southgate’s attention.

He said: “I don’t know Gareth Southgate’s TV preferences. But play as well as I can and the rest will take care of itself.

“I’d love to be a part of the England squad. I’d never close that door, I’d always want that to be an ambition of mine.

“It all comes down to me performing the best I can, whether it’s Europa League or in the league.

“If I’m doing that then it forces other people into making decisions.”

Forster, on loan from Southampton, warned Lazio they will have their work cut out keeping tabs on in-form Hoops hitman Odsonne Edouard.

He added: “If Odsonne keeps doing what he’s doing and works hard there’s no reason he can’t go and have an amazing career. He’s been brilliant. I’m fortunate I get to see him every day.

“He scored a hat-trick the other day and keeps banging in goals for France Under-21s.

“He has a knack of scoring big goals at big times. He’s got great feet and no one knows what he’s going to do.

“He can take it on left foot or right foot. He’s got that variety which makes it a nightmare for defenders.”
