DAVID McCARTHY ANSWERS YOUR CALLS

WHEN someone phones the Hotline from safari in Tanzania’s Serengeti, you know something special’s going on.

When that someone happens to be Rod Stewart – Sir Rod Stewart – you have Reason To Believe something really special’s going on.

The guy who sang, ‘I Don’t Want To Talk About It,’ decided he did want to chat about both halves of the Old Firm’s superb European results on Thursday night.

And the familiar voice rasped: “Forget the great divide for a moment. This was a wonderful night for Scottish football. Well done the Gers and well done the Celts.“

The old rocker wasn’t the only one to heap praise on Glasgow’s big two.

said: “Can I say how much I enjoyed both ties involving Celtic and Rangers. Two fantastic results and two magnificent performances. The Glasgow clubs made Lazio and Porto look ordinary in their respective second halves.”

said: “A great result for both teams. The opposition are Champions League standard so it gives our game a boost. We’re always quick to condemn our teams in Europe, me included. But let’s give praise where it’s due.”

said: “To ask what has changed for the Old Firm in Europe is quite simply, a bit of luck for both of them. And it is about time too.

“How many times have we seen decisions go against them by poor referees or footballers cheating?

“As the great Jock Stein once said, regardless of how you play, teams need luck. Well done to Celtic and Rangers, this will help Scottish football – let us all support them in their quest.” said: “Rangers and Celtic did Scottish football proud
