High-flying Fifers glad to still be a Young side

SCOTT AGNEW insists Ayr’s loss is East Fife’s gain with Darren Young still in the dugout for today’s top-of-the-table battle.

The Bayview boss was interviewed for the Somerset Park job that Mark Kerr was handed earlier this week.

The Fifers are the only club out of 42 SPFL sides still unbeaten in their league with victory at Raith Rovers today sending them top of the table.

And Agnew is elated the man delivering the team talk in Kirkcaldy will still be Young.

He said: “The manager went for the Ayr job and didn’t get it. Everybody at the club will be delighted. You just need to look at what he’s done at East Fife since he arrived and in particular this season.

“We are still unbeaten, so long may it continue.

“He’s settled with us and he has built a good squad. I’m sure he’ll be pleased with how we have done so far and the aim for us is to get into the play-offs.

“Again hopefully we can all progress our careers that way and continue to do well at East Fife.

“Ayr are an established Championship club now and the lure of full-time management was probably one he was interested in.

“I don’t know how he feels about not getting it but certainly from the players’ point of view and I’m sure everybody at East Fife, they will be delighted he is still our manager.”

Rovers remain unbeaten in their last seven and midfielder Brad Spencer said: “It is a big game, first against second, and we want to put a marker down.”
