Bren’s 9 in row

-

RAMPANT Leicester went goal crazy as they set a new record for a topflight away win in England.

The Foxes ripped sad Southampton apart at St Mary’s and also equalled the best ever win of the Premier League era.

Ayoze Perez and Jamie Vardy both slammed hat-tricks to send Brendan Rodgers’ side up to second in the table.

City were 5-0 up at half-time as they inflicted the heaviest defeat on Saints in their 134-year history.

Strikes from Ben Chilwell, Youri Tielemans and James Maddison completed an astonishing victory as City equalled Manchester United’s 9-0 win over Ipswich in March 1995.

The win made for a miserable night for Saints boss Ralph Hassenhuttl, who must now try and lift his side for their next two games – BOTH away to Premier champs Manchester City in the League Cup in midweek and the league next weekend.

But jubilant Rodgers hailed his Leicester stars and beamed: “We said at half-time, keep your speed in the game and we have to punish them.

“It is tough for Ralph but we have to do our job and score as many as we can.

“The game is 0-0 at half-time we said. This is part of our education, we have to come out of the boy zone and play like a man and respect the game.

“They are very talented and learning to be ruthless.

“We believe in our work, believe we can push over the course of the season. Our mentality is how we work every day. The players want to get better and improve.”

Saints defender Ryan Bertrand became the first top-flight player sent off following a VAR review after a dangerous lunge at Perez in the build-up to Chilwell’s 10th-minute opener.

It was 2-0 in the 17th-minute when Tielemans fired a low shot past Angus Gunn after Yan Valery had inadvertently diverted the ball into his path.

Boos rang around the ground just seconds later when Perez broke into the box by stylishly exchanging passes with Tielemans before skidding a low shot off the sodden surface and past Gunn at the near post.

Perez claimed his second in the 39th
