Help me make personal fashion statement
Q I always shop at the same high street stores and am sick of always wearing the same stuff I see on everyone else. Where should I be shopping instead? A
If you want to dress like a cool girl, it’s time to log in to Instagram. I don’t only say that because everything on the platform is shiny, new and amazingly pleasing on the eye. It’s also the best place to start to make a unique fashion statement. Try typing #independentdesigner, and you’ll find flocks of upcoming brands selling their wears.
The platform has given emerging fashion houses the opportunity to make a name for themselves and stand out in the already overcrowded market. They are not always cheap, but more and more indie brands are becoming conscious of providing sustainable, well-made items that will stay in your wardrobe forever.
Take Olivia Rose the Label for example. Based in Edinburgh, Olivia sources all her fabric from around the UK and designs, makes and sells the items herself. You even get a personal handwritten note with each beautifully wrapped order. Her stunning dresses and tops are a modern take on vintage shapes – think bold shoulders, square necklines and ruched detailing. Feminine, polished and coquettishly sexy.
There are so many other emerging brands worth a mention – try Paloma Wool for perfect knit dresses and sweaters, Oh Hey Girl for abstracts prints and breezy, tentish tops. House of Sunny, Lost Ink, Gestuz and Neon Rose are great if you want to be glam, but not look like you’ve tried too hard.
