The good, the mad & the ugly

Klopp: Our attitude & Kop’s crazy fans make us a nightmare to face

- BY ALAN MARSHALL

JURGEN KLOPP claims Liverpool’s Anfield invincibility is partly because they’re so ugly to play against.

The German’s insistence on a high-pressing, hardrunning, aggressive style coupled with their ability, a never-say-die attitude and a passionate home crowd makes trips to the red half of Merseyside so daunting for opponents.

And Klopp aimed a dig at the fans of bitter rivals Manchester United by claiming they went quiet after the Reds’ late leveller at Old Trafford rather than urge their team on.

As Liverpool prepared to stretch their unbeaten home run in the Premier League to 45 games against Spurs tomorrow, Klopp said: “We have this run because we put in a specific mix of attitude and the potential of the boys, plus the crowd. That makes life difficult.

“We saw last week that the Manchester crowd was really good until we scored the equaliser and then it was done. That’s different here.

“Okay, somebody can score an equaliser but it does not mean we can’t win the game.

“If you remember, I said I wanted us to be the most ugly team to play against. Hopefully for most teams it’s like that.

“We all worked for it and deserve it and earned it but can’t take it for granted, especially against Tottenham.

“We have to run a lot, work really hard and fight like crazy. If we do that it is difficult to play against.”

Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino admits the Amazon documentary at Spurs has him feeling like Steven Spielberg.

But the Argentina has vowed to make sure it’s no disaster movie.

The cameras are rolling for fly-on-the-wall series ‘All or Nothing’, which is how Poch described the Champions League Final defeat to Liverpool.

He said: “When the club agreed the deal with Amazon, of course we were worried about it. Because it is not easy, it’s tough to have the camera in your office.

“If we were busy before, now we’re super busy. I told you I feel that I am not any more a manager, I am a coach – now I am like a producer. Like Spielberg? Nearly, yes!

“The final was tough and it’s difficult to move on but we feel recovered.”
