Bryson blasts Thommo over claim Dons laid down to Celts

-

The former Derby star was the only player to earn praise from manager Derek McInnes after the game.

He admits the players need to face up to the flak and hopes to make some amends by beating Hamilton tonight.

He said: “Sometimes you don’t play well and you don’t win the tackles or headers but it’s not for a lack of trying.

“Sometimes a team is just better than you on the day.

“Our downfall was that we didn’t turn up, we certainly didn’t go into the game to lie down. The gaffer would never send us onto the pitch saying, ‘Just let Celtic win.’ “What happened was we were rubbish and they were far better. You have to accept criticism though.

“There will be times where you get praised and if you accept that then you have to take it the other way.

“Anyone who watched the game saw we were nowhere

near good enough. We were miles off it, we made it far too easy for Celtic.

“We didn’t get in their faces or make enough tackles.”

Scott McKenna admitted the need for clear-the-air talks and Bryson confirmed the players had gone over it.

He said: “We want to prove a point, we want to prove the people who have criticised us are wrong.

“We want to get nine points from three games before the next international break.

“If we can do that we’ll go into that break feeling better about ourselves. We have to stand up and be counted.”

Manager McInnes was critical of his team after the game and is adamant that even a win against Accies tonight won’t wipe away Sunday’s pain. But he knows they need to move on.

He said: “It was extremely disappointing but it’s also important we don’t dwell on it. We just have to try to instil a bit more confidence and belief in everyone.”
