IT’S HARD TO BE A SAINT IN CITY STADIUM

EFL CUP

- LAST NIGHT FOOTBALL TODAY

MANCHESTER CITY eased in to the last eight as they sealed a miserable few days for Southampton with a 3-1 victory.

Fresh off a horror 9-0 rout by Leicester, Saints fans were desperate to see a battling response.

But within 20 minutes they had conceded another, Nicolas Otamendi towering above the defence to nod home.

Sergio Aguero then added City’s second before the break, finishing off a brilliant team goal.

It got worse when Aguero struck again in 56 minutes and despite Jack Stephens pulling one back, it was another miserable night for Saints.

The Foxes, meanwhile, continued their fine run of form by seeing off Burton 3-1.

Kelechi Iheanacho got things rolling for Brendan Rodgers’ side with an opener in seven minutes.

That was followed by Youri Tielemans’ strike and, despite former Ross County ace Liam Boyce pulling one back, James Maddison wrapped it up.

Elsewhere, Everton edged Watford 2-0 thanks to Mason Holgate and a late Richarlison strike.

Colchester came from behind to beat Crawley 3-1. Dannie Bulman put Town ahead but Luke Norris and Luke Gambin strikes, either side of an own goal from Michael Luyambula, won it.

And Sunderland went out on penalties as they lost to Oxford. Marc McNulty levelled after Robert Hall’s opener but missed in the shootout.
