Josh wants to show idol who has the Magic now
DUNFERMLINE v QUEEN O STH
JOSH EDWARDS idolised Allan Johnston and has the autograph to prove it.
But the Dunfermline defender can’t wait to make Magic miserable by beating Queen of the South today.
Kilmarnock fan Edwards, 19, loved watching his wing play during the Queens gaffer’s spell at Rugby Park.
The left-back, who made his 50th senior appearance in midweek, said: “I was 13 when I was at Killie, went to Ayr for six months then played boys’ club up to 17 when I signed for Airdrie.
“I was a big Killie fan when I was younger and remember watching Allan Johnston play. I met him at the Killie open day and remember him signing things. He was one of the players I got a ball signed by.
“He used to play at Middlesbrough and my dad is a big Middlesbrough fan so he is one of the ones my dad wanted me to meet.
“I quite liked him as a player when I was a young boy. I must have been about six or seven years old when I was getting him to sign my wee Killie ball. I’d rather the three points though.”
Johnston is back at East End Park for the first time since the Pars sacked him in January but wants success, not to settle scores.
The Doonhamers boss said: “Dunfermline are a big club and I enjoyed my time there. We had three decent seasons of progress, which included winning a league, then had a six-month period where things stalled.
“That is football and it will be great to go back. But I am going back to win and not reminisce. Dunfermline had a good win in midweek over Arbroath at home and that will set them up nicely.
“They will come out all guns blazing and we need to be ready.”
