HIGH BAIN THRESHOLD

- BY MICHAEL GANNON

SCOTT BAIN popped his thumb back in its socket on the pitch so won’t flinch when it comes to waiting for his change to slot back into the Celtic team.

The Hoops keeper revealed the gory details of his injury in the Champions League qualifying clash with Cluj in August.

Bain dislocated his finger – but managed to continue – only to see Fraser Forster drafted in on loan from Southampton when he eventually needed time out to recover.

Forster has nailed down the No.1 role but this week the backup shot-stopper penned a new deal until 2023 and he’s happy to take on the long-term fight.

Bain said: “I made a save and my thumb hit the ground so I popped it back in – I could feel it in my glove that it was facing the other way.

“We were all disappointed at the end and my thumb wasn’t too bad but the next morning it was so sore. It was weird I didn’t feel it at the time but that was probably down to the adrenalin flowing and popping it back in straight away probably helped.

“It has taken longer than expected to recover from it though. It could have been an issue if I needed an op but it was fine.

“I just needed to rest, not move it and then keep it in a splint. I also have a splint in my glove and that will make sure it doesn’t snap off again!”

Bain was thrilled with the new deal but admitted he’ll have to bide his time.

He said: “It’s just a case of me being patient. It can be frustrating not playing but it’s a great dressing room at Celtic.

“Everything at this club is geared towards the same direction.

“We all want to keep being as successful as possible and if that means me pushing other players, so be it for now.”
