My weekend with Brendan Sheerin

TOUR guide Brendan Sheerin has been the face of TV show Coach Trip since it launched in 2005. The 60-year-old has been single since the death of his partner Les. He lives in Torremolinos, Spain.

ON Saturdays, I’ll get up and swim in the pool in my garden or I might go to the beach for an hour or two. I usually treat myself to a British newspaper. I like to read one at least once a week. Later in the day, I might go down to Fuengirola on the train to meet some old tour friends and have some tapas.

On Sundays I’ll have a quiet morning, a bit of a lazy day, but then meet some friends for lunch, usually paella. I like to cook, too. My signature dish would be Greek lamb cooked very slowly in the oven. I’ll always eat Yorkshire pudding and roast beef when I’m back in England, though. And I love a fat rascal, which is a big fat scone, at Bettys in Harrogate, and Galaxy chocolate – my friends fly out to Spain with it, they have orders.

In the evening, after a little siesta, I’ll go up to Malaga on the train and meet my friends Bruno, Juanito and Pepe. We’ll have churros con chocolate and walk around or there might be an art festival or a film festival.

If I have a night in, I love reading historical non-fiction. I’ve got two on the go at the moment. One’s called Catherine Of Aragon by Giles Tremlett, which is all about her life. The other one is Cathedral Of The Sea by a Spanish writer called Ildefonso Falcones, which is about building a church in Barcelona. I’ll also watch NCIS on TV but it’s mostly Spanish shows we get. I like documentaries – which is why I don’t know who the celebs are on Coach Trip!
