I don’t care what the trolls say. I’m proud of what I’ve achieved

Gogglebox favourite and jungle queen Scarlett talks online bullies, kebabs and her new adventure in Africa...

- Scarlett Moffatt

What have you enjoyed on TV recently?

Channel 4’s reality show The Circle, which is a social media game where anyone can be anyone. The fact that Richard Madeley can pretend to be a 27-year-old woman called Judy is TV gold.

Do you have any TV guilty pleasures?

I watch a lot of Dance Moms, about kids’ dancing contests, because I’m drawn to the drama of all the young girls’ mothers bickering and being very competitive.

What do you like to eat while you watch?

I normally don my onesie, get under a blanket on a sofa and eat a chicken kebab. That’s the way forward. I’m a savoury girl, so I also enjoy Fridge Raiders and Scotch eggs.

What does your living room look like?

It’s quirky. I’ve got a bright pink sofa, a bar with a big spaceman and a life-sized cut-out of Ru Paul, plus a neon sign that says, ‘Be a big pink flamingo in a flock of pigeons’. My mam keeps telling me to stop buying tat.

Did you enjoy living with African nomads for C4’s The British Tribe Next Door?

It was life-changing. It improved my self-confidence because the women of the Himba tribe would walk around half-naked and loved their bodies. They told me they envied my boobs and liked my fat rolls. It was so empowering. I learnt to love myself more.

Any scary moments?

I went to a watering hole with the Himba women and there was a poisonous cobra in the sand. It could have killed us but they were so chilled out. I’ll never take tap water for granted again.

Were the Himba jealous of the Moffatt home?

No, that was the most shocking thing. What they learnt from us is that they’re really content with the way they live. They’re a very close community where family is really important and they help each other out. They don’t need smartphones.

What causes you anxiety in your normal life?

I start to panic if I don’t get many ‘likes’ on a picture I’ve posted on Instagram. Isn’t that pathetic? I get wound up about missing a delivery, but in the grand scheme of things

it’s so irrelevant.

How’s your battle with online trolls going?

I care less about their negative comments now. If they say I’m overweight I just think ‘right, okay’, because I’m proud of what I’ve achieved. Hopefully a lot of girls resonate with me.

The British Tribe Next Door is on Tuesday, Channel 4, at 9.15pm.
