of an indecent image at the Old Bailey yesterday following a trial.

The court heard 54-year-old Williams received the video from her older sister, co-defendant Jennifer Hodge, via WhatsApp. The court accepted Williams, from London, did not view the material, although jurors were not convinced by Williams’ claim she was unaware of its presence on her phone.

Judge Richard Marks QC said: “You have had a stellar career in the police force over 30 years. Against this background, it is completely tragic you found yourself in the position you now do.”

He added that the consequences of the conviction will be “immense”.

Williams is on restricted duties and could end up losing her career pending a misconduct investigation.

The court heard she was awarded the Queen’s Policing Medal for distinguished service in 2003.

Hodge, 56, also from London, was found guilty of distributing an indecent image of a child. She was sentenced to 100 hours’ community service.

Her boyfriend, Dido Massivi, 61, was convicted of distributing an indecent photo of a child and having an extreme pornographic image. He was handed an 18-month sentence for each offence, to run concurrently, suspended for two years, and ordered to carry out 200 hours’ community service.
