Kuyt is not surprised Gerrard is Ibrox hero

DIRK KUYT believes Steven Gerrard is on a journey with Rangers that will take them both where they crave to perform.

But his old Liverpool team-mate has warned him they will hit a dip in the road in Rotterdam tomorrow night as Feyenoord aim for revenge.

The pair spent seven years together at Anfield and Kuyt, now 39, is coach of Feyenoord under-19s and will watch the Europa League clash this week with extra interest.

He was already bowled over by the atmosphere at Ibrox in September, when Rangers won 1-0.

He expects it to be just as feisty in Rotterdam as Dick Advocaat’s side seek the win that would keep their last-32 hopes alive.

Kuyt said: “Steven has done really well and from the first day he arrived he has been working hard to get the club back to where they belong. I have followed him as a former team-mate and a friend and I was at Ibrox for the first match.

“I watched him and his team closely and I was impressed with the effort they put into the game and the quality on the pitch.

“He is doing a great job and I think from here on he will only do better.

“It is not a surprise at all to see his impact at Rangers because he already did that as a player with Liverpool. “He works every day to be the best and has already proved to be successful. “In the future? He will only be more successful. “The Premiership title for example would mean just as much to him as it would to the Rangers supporters. “He is a winner and he will try to do everything to win trophies. That is what it is all about for him – only the best is good enough.” few times a week saying everything and anything to put Rangers down. They are terrified at the thought that their annual stroll to the Treble is over because Rangers are back.”

said: “It’s Interesting to see King deserting the ship first as it becomes obvious they cannot stop 10-in-a-row and nobody will pay more than £8million for Alfredo Morelos.”

To matters on the pitch at Ibrox and

said: “The fans are entitled to criticise James Tavernier and Connor Goldson as they pay their wages but remember the old saying of never changing a winning side.

“The great Scot Symon never changed his, except through injury, and the rest was history. We won all domestic trophies for many years.”

said: “I see Feyenoord boss Dick Advocaat is already using his mind games and has lamented his injury crisis ahead of the Rangers game.

“But we heard the same from Brian Rice and Hamilton could have taken points on Sunday.”

Now to Celtic and their move to shut part of their railed seating section for tomorrow night’s clash against Rennes after another UEFA fine for offensive banners and singing.

said: “If Celtic are truly serious about eradicating bad behaviour they must rid themselves of the Green Brigade entirely.”

said: “Well done on Celtic for closing the Green Brigade section. For too long they think they are above the law and can continue to do what they want while tarnishing the club’s name.”
