LOAN STAR KEEN O BE A JAG FOR THE COLE SEASON

-

REECE COLE insists he is buzzing to extend his love affair with Partick Thistle after keeping up his scoring streak.

The on-loan Brentford star netted his fourth goal in five games to earn the Jags a vital comeback win at Palmerston.

Connor Murray had put Queens in front but Joe Cardle and Cole struck late in the second half to hoist Ian McCall’s Thistle side off the bottom of the table. Now Cole hopes to agree a deal until the end of the season before returning to the English Championship in the summer.

He said: “It’s nice to get a goal but I’m just happy with the win as the most important thing was getting three points.

“I’m enjoying my football, which is the main thing. I think another six months here will only benefit

me. It’s got to be right for both parties, not just for me, but Brentford have got to say yes as well. January is only around the corner so we’ll see what happens.

“The expectation and pressure here is there 100 per cent, especially from the fans.

“There have been some performances which haven’t been good enough this season and what we’ve got to do is start repaying their faith.” Cole admits Thistle believed the Dumfries men were there for the taking when Cardle levelled after the midfielder’s low free-kick was parried by keeper Robby McCrorie.

He added: “We knew we could get at them. We knew there was space on the pitch for us to penetrate them and we did that in the second half.

“The first half wasn’t good enough. I’ve said previously once we go one down it looks like we could concede a second but I thought we were resilient.

“After that first goal went in I felt we were solid at the back.

“I think in the second half we came out and proved what we can do in this league.”

Defeat put a dampener on the Queens squad’s Christmas night out in Liverpool and skipper Darren

Brownlie admits the double header against Morton and Arbroath will shape their season.

The 25-year-old defender said: “It’s really disappointing as I thought the boys were brilliant. But we never took our chances and that has come back to bite us.

“We looked at this game which is obviously away now so the next two games are important and a chance to get maximum points.”
