Loan star Ross plays for keeps

-

ROSS MUNRO hopes keeping Raith Rovers’ rivals out will mean he stays in Kirkcaldy.

The on-loan Ross County kid racked up his fourth clean sheet on the trot as the Stark’s Park side moved back top of the table thanks to Ross Matthews’ first-half goal in the 1-0 win over Airdrie.

But his deal is up next month and he hopes he has done enough to earn a new one.

Munro said: “I’ve enjoyed it here. It has been a good experience and opened up my eyes.

“That’s why I came here, to challenge myself and get experience.

“It is a good league and a tough one to play in but we are top of the table.

“Nothing has been said (about a new loan deal) so we will see what comes but I am quite happy here.”

The simmering clash of the title rivals boiled over as both teams finished with nine men and Diamonds manager Ian Murray was sent off after two bookings.

Rovers’ Iain Davidson walked for a late, thighhigh tackle while goal hero Matthews followed him up the tunnel for a clumsy stoppage-time challenge.

In between Diamonds’ Callum Fordyce saw red for a crude tackle and his side also ended with nine when sub Charlie Reilly had to go off with all three subs already used.

Murray was then sent packing by ref Greg Aitken following heated protests when nothing was given for Raith’s Kyle Benedictus handball in the box.

Boss Murray said: “I’ll be asking for an explanation about my red card because the linesman said I had acted reasonably.

“We deserved something from the game but not to win it. There wasn’t a lot of quality from either team.”

Raith’s John McGlynn hailed his side and added: “It’s a massive win and four clean sheets in a row.”

East Fife’s 0-0 draw with Falkirk’s saw both fall further behind Raith.

Montrose moved up to fifth after a 2-0 win at Dumbarton thanks to Andy Steeves’ first-half header and a late Ryan McGeever own goal.

Clyde’s Raymond Grant hit the bar with a penalty as his side drew 0-0 with Forfar, while Ryan Conroy’s double and Scott Brown’s late goal helped Peterhead to a 3-0 win over Stranraer, whose James Hilton missed a penalty.
