Macrae lapping up goal glut

-

ANDREW MACRAE is feasting on goals for Brora Rangers – and reckons it is all down to good service.

The former Caley Thistle youth made it nine from his first five games for the Sutherland club as they demolished Huntly in the Highland League Cup.

Winger Macrae’s deadly double in the 6-0 away triumph helped take the league leaders through to the semi-finals.

And the youngster, who joined the Cattachs from Forres Mechanics in October, credited his team-mates for making it easy for him.

His goalscoring appetite brought 25 goals at Forres last season but he already looks destined to smash that personal best this season.

Macrae said: “I’m loving it here. We’ve got so many striking options but it’s like you get chances laid on a plate for you.

“I feel like I’m feasting on the chances the lads are creating and I’m not the only one. I have to give credit to the quality around me for that.

“Competition is good, too, we have a number of guys who can play in different positions.

“Even on Saturday, when we were missing two or three players, we had others ready to come straight into the team.”

Brora’s biggest challenge was overcoming a very heavy Christie Park surface and a home side determined to make life as difficult as possible.

In the end though it proved as straightforward a win as they come. Macrae added: “It was always going to be hard coming to Huntly and the pitch made it extra difficult.

“The longer we went without scoring the more likely it was Huntly would come into the game.

“But it was a deserved win in the end and I’m pleased to get two goals. We managed to get in two goals ahead at half-time and the third goal killed it off.

“Once we got that one, Huntly’s heads went down and we just kept going and were able to add more.”

Elsewhere in the cup quarter-finals, heavy rain put paid to Buckie Thistle’s home tie against Fraserburgh, Keith’s trip to Rothes and Forres v Formartine. In the league, only two games of an already reduced card beat the weather.
