Wilson treble rouser in rout

- SCOTT McHARG

AUCHINLECK hitman Graham Wilson couldn’t hide his delight after bagging a hat-trick as the West Premiership league champions blew away fellow title contenders Kilwinning 6-1 with a second-half blitz.

Tommy Sloan’s side were back in league action after several weeks of senior and Scottish Junior Cup ties – and showed they are determined to retain their crown.

Talbot talisman Wilson was a thorn in Buffs’ side all game and said: “Our second-half performance was excellent and the quality of the goals was very, very good.

“It was a game we had to win as we have played eight games less than them and we couldn’t have the gap getting any bigger. We are playing catch up because of our run in the senior Scottish Cup but hopefully this will be a springboard to go on a run.”

Wilson opened the scoring after only five minutes when he swept home a cross from brother Stephen.

Kilwinning got themselves level just after half-time when a stunning Carlo Monti freekick left Bot keeper Andy Leishman helpless.

The introduction of sub Jamie Glasgow gave Talbot a lift and his neat flick found Mark Shankland, who put his side ahead with a great finish.

Shortly after Bot went further ahead when Graham Wilson found the bottom corner after his first attempt was blocked.

Dwayne Hyslop then got on the end of Glasgow’s cross to bullet his header past David Markey before Wilson got his third and his side’s fifth from the spot after soft penalty award that saw Buffs’ Michael Hewitt see red.

Glasgow then finished off the demolition job when he cut inside and unleashed a cracker into the bottom corner with seconds remaining.

Kilwinning gaffer Chris Strain wasn’t too disappointed despite the result. He said: “I don’t think the scoreline reflects the game at all.

“We just need to dust ourselves down and get on with it If I was given our position just now at the start of the season I’d have been delighted.”
