Assault-rap Flack leaves hit ITV show.. Maya fave to replace her
BY KELLY ALLEN CAROLINE Flack is quitting as Love Island host to protect the show after her shock assault charge – with Maya Jama tipped to replace her.
The 40-year-old was arrested and bailed after an alleged row with boyfriend Lewis Burton last week.
She was due to fly to Cape Town on January 1 to front the new winter edition of the hit ITV2 contest.
But Caroline said yesterday: “Love Island has been my world for five years. It’s the best show on telly.
“To not detract attention from the upcoming series, I feel the best thing I can do is to stand down for series six. I wish the incredible team a fantastic series.”
Caroline has already been to South Africa to film a promo for the latest series, which starts on January 12.
ITV said: “We understand and accept her decision. We will remain in contact about future series.”
Caroline was to earn £3.6million in a three-year deal after her salary tripled due to the winter run. Lzst year she got a six-figure deal to work on a fashion range with River Island and only wear the firm’s clothes on the show. An advertising deal with Polaroid is now said to be on hold.
Police went to Caroline’s house in Islington, North London, last Thursday. Tennis player Lewis, 27, has said the star, who faces Highbury Corner magistrates on Monday, is suffering a “witch hunt”.
Coral has Maya Jama as the 5-6 favourite to replace her. Show narrator Iain Stirling has also been touted – as has his girlfriend Laura Whitmore, who replaced Caroline in I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! NOW! in 2011. A source said: “Laura is a safe pair of hands. Plus, she knows the crew.” Rochelle Humes, Emily Atack, Scarlett Moffatt and winner Amber Gill are also thought to be in the frame.
