Crucial survey
Responses used to develop policies
IT’S just one small step towards the solution of Scotland’s problem with drugs.
But if users can take part in the Global Drugs Survey for 2020, it will make a massive difference to find out more about the issue on our streets.
For the last eight years, the confidential check has quizzed people about their recreational substance misuse and has provided vital evidence for agencies such as the Scottish Drugs Forum.
They are being supported by this newspaper in their aims to make sure 2020 sees the catastrophic figure of 1187 drugs deaths last year go down.
It might not seem like much but filling in this simple survey will go some way to winning that war.
SCOTS are being urged to take part in the world’s biggest online survey on recreational drug use that could save lives.
Shamefully, Scotland’s drugs death toll last year reached 1187 – the highest rate of any developed nation. The Record, backed by cross-party politicians, is campaigning for decriminalisation and safe consumption rooms to tackle the crisis.
And we are working in partnership with the Scottish Drugs Forum, which is seeking to find out about our drug habits.
Now the Global Drug Survey 2020 is asking Scots to share their experiences confidentially.
Volunteers complete an encrypted online survey, with results used to develop harm reduction interventions. Katy MacLeod, SDF’s national training and development officer, said: “It’s really important that people in Scotland fill out the survey.
“By taking the survey you’ll be helping to make recreational drug use in Scotland less harmful and helping to create policy and responses that focus on substance use as a health issue.”
If you have used alcohol or any other drug in the last year and want to help society have an honest conversation about substance use, share your experience at www. globaldrugsurvey.com/ GDS2020
