Petkov: I’d love chance to impress

-

CLYDE loan star Alex Petkov hopes to get the chance to impress new Hearts boss Daniel Stendel.

Petrov scored his first senior goal when he grabbed the opener in Clyde’s 3-1 win over Airdrie.

The stopper, 20, is set to return to Tynecastle next month and hopes he’ll have a chance to put into practice what he’s learned at Clyde.

Asked about returning to the Jambos, Petkov said: “I’ve still to discuss it with everyone, I’m not sure yet.

“It will be a good opportunity to go and impress and hopefully be involved with the first team more. I’ll see what happens. I just want to enjoy my football and play every Saturday.

“I’ve still got two more games left at Clyde. My time here has been great.

“I’ve learned a lot. I’ve improved on the physical side of the game. Most of the games are quite physical, long ball and it’s a fight, so I’ve learned a lot.”

Petkov opened the scoring after eight minutes and David Goodwillie doubled Clyde’s lead with a spectacular scissors-kick. Dales Carrick halved the deficit before the interval.

But Goodwillie wrapped up the points with an injury-time strike.

Petkov said: “It was my first professional goal, so I’m buzzing. It was a special moment.”

Airdrie slipped to third on goal difference and captain Sean Crighton admits they passed up the chance to open up a lead.

He said: “We’re all gutted and we don’t want that feeling again.”
