I did not Grant my dad best Xmas wish

-

PETER GRANT JNR admits Christmas dinner will be a tricky one this year after Morton ensured his dad’s Alloa side are bottom of the Championship over the festive period.

The Ton defender helped bring some Christmas cheer to the Cappielow outfit with their first away win of the season, as a cracker of a strike from Nicky Cadden and a Jack Baird effort secured the points.

But that inflicted a fourth defeat on the spin for Peter Snr and his Wasps.

The former Celtic midfielder has two sons following in his footsteps – with his youngest, Ray, playing for Clyde in League One – so football is bound to be on the menu at Christmas.

But asked if he’ll be making the most of the bragging rights, Peter Jnr said: “I’m not going to lie, it’s tough because we both want each other to do well.

“This year we are having our Christmas dinner together. My mum is coming up, my girlfriend and my brother will be there as well, so we are all having Christmas at my dad’s and I’m looking forward to it.

“We’ve both got to do our jobs at the end of the day. He wants to win and so do I.”

Ton took the lead just after the hour when Reece Lyon chested the ball to Cadden and he volleyed a stunning strike past Jamie MacDonald from 25 yards.

Baird sealed the points three minutes later, nudging the ball home at the back post from Cadden’s cross.

Morton are up to eighth and sit five points clear of Alloa going into the festive period.

And Grant Jnr said: “It gives us something to build on and we’ve got to be consistent now.

“It’s massive for our confidence to get our first away points of the season.”

After Alloa made it five games without a win, a deflated Grant Snr said: “In between both boxes, we’ve played some good stuff.

“But what keeps you in leagues is what you do in your own box and the opposition’s box. We haven’t been clinical enough or defended well enough.”
