Stirling Uni given a gold Star

-

CHRIS GEDDES says it’s onwards and upwards for his young Stirling Uni squad after their third win out of four.

They were 1-0 winners over Dalbeattie Star who finished the game with nine men after two red cards and six yellows.

Geddes said: “It was a tough game for both teams with the pitch cutting up. The early red card for Lee Wells didn’t help Star but they kept their shape and made it hard for us.

“When we needed a bit of quality we got it. It was great finish from Euan Baird and then we saw it out. That’s us doing well and we’ve won three out of our last four.

“We play Kelty next week which is a big one but we’ve given them problems so they know it’s not going to be an easy game.

“We’ve got points on the board now so we’ll go there with a free hit and see what we can get.”

Geddes’ Uni side also play in the British University League in midweek and he said: “The boys have played 29 games so far this season and done pretty well.

“Dalbeattie’s a hard place to come to, so we’re happy with the three points. We’re getting the confidence up now in a very hard league but we’re looking up.

“We don’t want to be looking down and we’re now chasing the teams above us and hopefully that will continue in the second half of the season.

“We’ve got a tough time starting in January with two games a week for six weeks so I need to manage my boys well. We’re used to it however and the boys are fit and they love playing games.”

Star gaffer Ritchie Maxwell said: “Performance-wise that’s the best we’ve been for weeks. Even when we went down to 10 I thought we kept our shape and they were struggling to create any chances.

“It’s disappointing the one chance they created they took. We were dangerous on the break and created a number of chances. The ref was dishing out cards but it wasn’t a dirty game.”
