Delighted Marc at the double

-

HURLFORD’S Marc McKenzie couldn’t hide his delight as he bagged a double against his old side as league leaders Kilwinning were swept aside with a six-goal blitz.

Strike partner Liam Caddis also helped himself to a brace with Calum Watt and another former Buff’s player Michael Wardrope getting on the scoresheet.

Gary Fleming and Alistair McColm were on target for the away side who also had David Syme sent off late on.

McKenzie, who was unplayable throughout, said: “I’m absolutely buzzing with the result and to grab a couple of goals was great.

“It’s always nice to score against your old side. To be honest I never wanted to leave and was kind of forced out the door due to financial circumstances so it does make it just that little bit sweeter.”

Hurlford came out the traps and were ahead in five minutes when McKenzie latched on to a long ball from Chris McKnight and smashed the ball past David Marky.

Watt then got in between the Buffs defence to head home before McKenzie rifled home for his second.

Fleming pulled one back for the Wee Gers before Caddis made it four right on half time, heading home McKenzie’s cross.

Straight after the restart McColm gave Buffs a lifeline with a neat finish. They threw everything at the Ford defence but were dealt a sucker punch when Wardrope’s long-range effort found the top corner with the aid of a deflection.

Caddis then got No.6 despite the best efforts of Markey just before Syme saw red for a lunge on McKenzie.

Kilwinning gaffer Chris Strain said: “That level of performance is no where near the standards we have set at this club. We are going through a bit of a rough patch and it’s up to everyone to stand up and be counted.”

Delighted Ford boss Darren Henderson said: “That’s exactly what I’m looking for and we just need to do it on a more consistent basis.”
