A big THANK YOU to generous Tesco shoppers

YOUR DONATIONS HELPED MANY PEOPLE TO HAVE A HAPPIER CHRISTMAS

-

TESCO shippers have dug deep this year, with millions of meals donated to provide life-changing support for people this Christmas.

The Tesco Food Collection – the UK’s biggest charity food collection – ran in all UK Tesco stores from November 21-23, with kind-hearted shoppers donating more than 2.5 million meals’ worth of food. These donations are now helping to feed communities across the country through charities the Trussell Trust and FareShare.

Nobody expects to find themselves in need of a food bank, and not being able to provide for our loved ones over Christmas is a position none of us wants to find ourselves in.

To help people in crisis, the 1,200 food banks in the Trussell Trust’s network provide food

parcels to people referred to them. The charity campaigns for change to end the need for food banks in the UK.

“Food banks up and down the country could not do what they do without the incredible support of both the public and the loyal volunteers who work tirelessly to help people when they need support the most,” said the charity’s chief executive Emma Revie. “An emergency food parcel, a listening ear and compassionate, practical advice at the food bank can make a real difference when someone is facing a crisis. Any donations help make that difference.”

Meanwhile, FareShare donations are distributed among a range of charities and community groups, who also benefit from Tesco’s yearround food donations.

The charity, which works to stop good food from going to waste, has 22 regional centres across the country.

The food is redistributed through a network of 11,000 frontline organisations, including homeless hostels, school breakfast clubs, domestic violence refuges, older people’s lunch clubs, food banks and hospices.

FareShare’s chief executive Lindsay Boswell said: “It was wonderful to see so many passionate people lending a hand to support us. All items donated by Tesco customers will be redistributed by FareShare to charities and community organisations, and will help to ensure more people get a hot, nutritious meal.”

Tesco is once again topping up all the donations from shoppers by 20%. Tesco director Christine Heffernan said: “On my visits to stores during the collection I was taken aback by the generosity of our customers and I would like to thank all those who donated.”
