Currie: For the first time ever I want Gers to lose

BY FRASER WILSON

MAX CURRIE admits if he wasn’t preparing to shut Rangers out tonight he’d be in the Ibrox stands supporting them.

For the first time in the Stranraer keeper’s life he hopes Steven Gerrard’s side are on the end of a defeat.

And what would be a humiliating one at that.

Currie has grown up a Gers fan and spent six years in the youth system at Auchenhowie.

But the 22-year-old is now forging a career at Stair Park and is well aware a big performance in front of 30,000 fans and the live TV cameras could help propel him back towards the big time.

Currie said: “This is the biggest game of my career to date and I can’t wait.

“I imagine Jermain Defoe will start up front. He is a top striker.

“They might not play their strongest 11 but no matter who they put out, it’s going to be a top side.

“I was at Rangers for six years up to Under-16s.

“I got to watch the first team training – Stefan Klos was the first-team keeper back then. He was excellent.

“If I wasn’t playing for Stranraer then there’s a good chance I’d be in the stand supporting Rangers.

“This is the first time in my life I’ve not wanted Rangers to win.”

‘Instead of making big statements about what he and Odsonne Edouard are going to do, is Klimala not better concentrating on getting a game first?’

James Forrest also off the boil then that, along with a striker, is what we need.” Forrest is getting stick again.

said: “Forrest needs taken out the team as he has been a passenger lately, especially against Rangers. He only scores against the easy teams.”

On to matters at Ibrox and Alfredo Morelos’ charity work raised a few calls. said: “The Celtic fans criticising Morelos’ charity work and the media coverage of it should get a life. The man is doing something for the less fortunate in his homeland and they’re still moaning about him. Celtic are constantly bringing the man media attention – at least this time it’s decent, and is helping bring awareness to his charity, surely that’s a good thing.”

said: “I’m not concerned about Morelos not scoring against Celtic. Ian Rush hardly ever scored against Manchester United and Kris Boyd struggled against Celtic but it never affected their worth.”

is concerned by the potential fixture headache facing the Old Firm.

He said: “I see another farce on the horizon with the SPFL and fixture congestion if the Old Firm progress in Europe, Scottish Cup replays, postponements due to weather, and international close down. It looks like the remedy to the problem is to extend the season. Or will that only happen if it suits the Parkhead board?”

Finally a call from the east end of the M8 and Hearts fan said: “Airdrie’s past wins over Hearts in the Scottish Cup prove we can’t take anything for granted this weekend.

“I fully expect Daniel Stendel to put out his strongest team because we need a good result to try to – at long last – put last year’s shambles behind us. Progression would be a baby step in the right direction.”
