Grimshaw: New deal was no-brainer Fir I’m right at home

-

LIAM GRIMSHAW reckons he has found a second home in Motherwell.

The Fir Park fans’ favourite hails from Burnley in Lancashire.

And the defender sees so many similarities with where he grew up – from the football teams to the people in the towns.

Just like the defender’s beloved Burnley, Well punch above their weight in the top flight.

And Grimshaw, who penned a new two-and-a-half-year Well deal yesterday, said: “I was buzzing to sign the new contract, it was an easy decision.

“I’m settled here and the team is doing well. Happiness means a lot in football, you come into work with a smile on your face.

“Since I’ve been here there have been great strides on and off the pitch. As a player I’m trying to improve and getting a regular game has been a real factor in doing that.

“I have a lot of time for

Motherwell as a club and I see a lot of similarities with my own team Burnley.

“The two clubs are really similar and so are the towns. It’s two working-class areas. People work hard and like to watch the football at the weekend.

“If fans see people who give 100 per cent they can forgive a lot of things. They want to see commitment on the pitch.

“I try to do that and if I can add a bit of quality the fans will be happy. We’re having a really good season, there’s a great work ethic and togetherness at the club.

“If we can reproduce our form from before the break we’ll have a chance of finishing up there.”

Motherwell head to Pittodrie this evening in third place and one point above Aberdeen.

Grimshaw added: “To get a win or draw would be great.

“If we did finish third it would be a fantastic achievement – but there is a long way to go yet.”
