We’ll be like Broxburn when we take on Gers

-

BY GRAEME MACPHERSON CALUM WATERS had one of the quietest matches of his career when St Mirren faced non-league Broxburn on Saturday. Now the full-back is gearing himself up for one of the busiest. Saints head to Ibrox tonight to take on a rampant Rangers side who will be eager to rack up the goals in front of their own fans. Former Celtic kid Waters played there three years ago during a loan spell at Dumbarton and admitted it was an experience like nothing else in his career. Having had next to no defensive work to do at the weekend, the 23 year-old expects the Rangers forwards – including former Killie team-mate Jordan Jones – will have him on his toes all night. He said: “These two matches are polar opposites. We’re going to go from having all the ball against Broxburn to going to Ibrox where you don’t see a lot of it.

“It’ll probably be like the Alamo and we’ll be feeling like Broxburn did at the weekend.

“I went there with Dumbarton which is the first and last time I’ve played there.

“It was a full house I remember as win that day gave them promotion back to the Premiership.

“It’s not very often you get a chance to play in front of these big crowds. It’s where you want to play your football.

“I came here on loan from Killie because they’re the games I want to play in and it’ll stand us all in good stead towards the end of the season.

“You can’t get involved with the crowd. You’ve got to block it out but enjoy it too.”
