A LOLLIPOP man has been banned from high-fiving schoolkids following a complaint by a killjoy.
Jim Hewitson has helped kids cross the road in rain, wind and snow to get to and from Galston Primary in Ayrshire for the past decade.
But the school has told parents to tell their children to stop giving Jim, or his patrol sign, a high-five after receiving a complaint.
Mum Gail Mcfarlane was among hundreds of parents who hit out on social media, writing: “Poor Jim is going to be so disheartened. Everything he does is for the kids.
“He’s a kind, caring man

“What has this world come too when he can’t even high-five kids, which gives them joy?”
Outside the school yesterday, pub landlord Simon Cole, 39, said: “It is absolute nonsense. The kids love him and the adults love him. He is a total man of honour.
“The person who made the complaint should be ashamed of themselves. Everyone in this town stands behind him.
“There’s a lot more stuff to be worried about than people high-fiving a lollipop man.”
Father-of-two Jim, 59, said: “I was told I could get sacked on the spot, however, my boss came out after the complaint was made and told me I wouldn’t lose my job.
“I love this job, I love interacting with the kids.”
In 2018, a ban stopping 85-year-old lollipop man Colin Spencer from highfiving children was lifted by Stockport Council.
East Ayrshire Council backtracked. Spokesman Andrew Kennedy said: “The crossing patroller was not officially instructed to stop young people high-fiving him.
“While he is there to support children crossing safely, his positive attitude and engaging approach with the young people is encouraged.” roll with it
