Toilets at museum, theatre targeted

POLICE are probing three incidents where sick morons daubed superglue in toilets at popular attractions – including on a baby changing table.

Two of the cases happened at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh and the other at the city’s Festival Theatre.

Mum-of-two Libby Fairbairn has told how her three-month-old daughter’s snowsuit became stuck to the table in a baby changing room at the museum on Friday.

She was alarmed by what could have happened if the glue had come into contact with a child’s skin.

Libby, of Gilberstoun, Edinburgh, said: “It was not a big thing for us, because it was just on Sadie’s clothing – but on a baby’s skin, which is like paper, that is worse.”

The mum, who was visiting the T.rex exhibition with her partner Nathan, baby Sadie and the couple’s 15-month-old son James, praised museum staff for quickly blocking off the changing facilities and sending a cleaning crew to inspect all of the toilets.

But she said police later told her a substance had come into contact with another child’s skin at the museum over the weekend, adding: “The fact they are looking at more cases makes it a bit more sinister.”

A police spokesman confirmed they received reports of vandalism at the museum and said inquiries are ongoing.

Officers are also probing an incident at the Festival Theatre over the weekend, where superglue is thought to have been daubed on a surface in the men’s toilets.

A National Museum of Scotland spokesman said: “Our visitor experience managers responded quickly to assist those affected and to check the rest of the public facilities in the museum.

“We will continue to rigorously check that all of our public facilities are clean and safe.”

A spokesman for Capital Theatres said: “We can confirm there was an incident which is under investigation by the police, so we are unable to comment. However, we can confirm that it was discovered by our staff before anyone was affected.”
