We’re trying to improve every game

-

THE Bravehearts of the Scotland Women’s rugby team are hoping new coaches and a more mature attitude will secure them a victory against England this weekend in the Six Nations.

Scotland squad captain Rachel Malcolm says the team has “grown up” since last year’s Six Nations and this formidable centre player was proved right as a pre-tournament match resulted in a 36-12 away victory against Spain.

Speaking before last Sunday’s game against Ireland, Rachel said: “It’s more about performances and improving every game, being more consistent and closing the gap against better sides.”

And 2020 is a crucial season for Scotland Women as they seek to qualify for the World Cup 2021.

Leading them on that mission is Head Coach Phlip Doyle and Assistant Coach Bryan Easson.

Doyle returned to Ireland last weekend for Scotland’s Six Nations match against Ireland and it is a team he knows well, having taken them to a Grand Slam achieved in 2013 and qualification to the 2014 Women’s Rugby World Cup.

But on February 2, he was leading the Scotland Women team in its charge. And while the final match score saw a narrow win for Ireland – 18-14 – Scotland’s focus is strong.

Philip’s wingman is Easson, a former player who brings all his experience to the team having coached at National U20, U18 and U16 levels.

Now, it’s time to take on England on Sunday, February 9, at Scotstoun in Glasgow. A strong focus and a new training plan is proving a success for Scotland Women.

You can watch Scotland take on England, with tickets costing £15 for adults, £5 for under-18s and kids under 12 can get in for only £1 (available until midnight Saturday, 8 February) if accompanied by a paying adult.
