TO ROB CELTIC

-

BY DAVID MCCARTHY EDDIE MALONE reckons former Ranger Graham Roberts masterminded Clyde’s Scottish Cup shock over Celtic in 2006 by making them believe Gordon Strachan’s team were past it.

The former Broadwood defender scored the second goal in Clyde’s famous 2-1 victory 14 years ago and hopes the memory can provide inspiration for the current Bully Wee players who face Neil Lennon’s men on Sunday.

But he reckons Danny Lennon won’t be taking a leaf out of his Clyde manager Roberts’ playbook by trying to convince his men that the current Celtic team are beyond their sell-by date.

Malone said: “Graham went to watch Celtic a lot and was telling us: ‘they are coming to the ends of their careers’.

“John Hartson was getting on, Lennon, Roy Keane hadn’t played for a couple of months.

“He was telling us that their legs had gone and we were believing it.

“He had us thinking they were hopeless! As

CLYDE have added two loanees to their squad for the visit of Celtic – Motherwell defender Adam Livingstone and Hamilton striker Ross Cunningham.

Bully wee Boss Danny Lennon said: “I’m always looking for ways to improve our squad.” soon as that draw was made that was all his focus was on.

“He and wee Joe [Miller] had gone to watch Celtic so many times and came back to us every day at training, saying: ‘Listen, they’re struggling. They’re a bit leggy in the middle of the park.’

“After it, I didn’t really see Graham.

“Craig Bryson and I were doing a lot of media and he would usually go straight back down south to his family after games. I went back to Edinburgh to see mine.

“We didn’t have any plans to go out after it because we didn’t think we were going to win!

“Usually when you make plans, you get egg on your face.”
